The GBC Stadium Series round 4 was almost a repeat of round 3!
My team and I headed up to Glen Helen Raceway last Saturday morning, and when I arrived at the track, I got my car unloaded and ran through tech. Then I went to registration to sign up. I entered in both the Production 1000 and Stock 1000 classes, and I was ready to race!
Shortly after registration, I went to the driver’s meeting and then, I headed to staging to qualify for start position in the Production 1000 class. I ran 4 solid laps and qualified 2nd. I was stoked with my start position, especially because I was racing in my stock car. Then, I went out to qualify for the Stock class, ran 4 great laps, and qualified 2nd in that class too. I headed back to my pit, fueled my car, and then went to the track to watch the races ahead of mine. The Production 1000 class was race 8 and the Stock 1000 class was race 9 in the line-up.
When it was time for the Production race, we lined up and headed out on to the track following the pace car for one lap, and as we came around the last corner, the pace car exited and the green flag dropped! I was in P2 as we rounded corner 1, and stayed on the car in front of me. I was running through the course and doing well holding my position, but then one of my competitors rolled causing the caution flag to come out. We all bunched back up as we rounded the course under caution and when the green flag flew again, we took off! I was doing everything I could to pass the car in front of me as we raced around the track for another lap. Then, another car rolled causing the caution flag to once again slow the race down. We rounded the track under caution for another lap, and then stopped as the leader pulled off the track due to a mechanical failure. Once we were able to go again, the checkered flag flew, and I crossed the finish line in 1st place in my class!
After exiting the course, I went right back to the start line as the Stock 1000 class was race number 9. I had just enough time to replenish my tear-offs and get some water before heading back out on to the course. We followed the pace car for one lap, and when the flag flew we took off! I got the hole shot and I settled in quickly, staying focused as we raced around the course. I was able to maintain my lead throughout the entire race and crossed the finish line in 1st place!
There were 9 races in the day, so I had a little time to head back to my pit, get fueled up, and then when it was time, we lined up and followed the pace car out for moto 2 in the Production 1000 race. The flag flew and we took off! The turbo class lined up in front of the Production class, which moved me to the middle of the pack. I had a rough start and was in P6 off of the line. I hit the gas to chase down the cars in front of me. By lap 2 I had moved to P4, and I did everything I could to get around the car in front of me. In the end I couldn’t get it done and I crossed the finish line in 4th place. After the results shook out, I brought home an overall 2nd place for the day in the Production 1000 class!
I went right back to the staging area and waited just a short time before heading back out on to the track for moto 2, race 9. We followed the pace car and as the flag flew, we all took off! I got the hole shot again and never looked back. I stayed focused, my car handled great, and I crossed the finish line in 1st place, bringing home 1st place for the day in the Stock 1000 class! Two podiums (again) in one day felt super awesome and I was stoked!
We are very busy prepping for WORCS round 5 and we will head to Preston, ID for that race the first weekend in June. I am looking forward to being back in the seat again!
