My team and I headed to Adams Motorsports Park to have some fun at the SXS Summer Shoot-out event. It was a HOT day, but I was stoked to be there! This shoot-out was different than the racing I usually do. This was head-to-head, rally cross style racing, and I was excited to try something different. The event was being held as the sun was going down, under the lights. I got to run a few practice laps and got a good feel for the track. We drew numbers for start position, and then we’d race two by two, with a double elimination format. I drew number 1.
There was only one UTV class, so I was racing my stock car against both turbos and other stock cars. I lined up against my first competitor, the flag flew, and we took off! The course was half dirt, half asphalt, with some tight turns, and a few jumps. It was a very short course and the laps were about 1 ½ minutes long. During my first moto, I stayed on the gas and crossed the finish line first! The win moved me to the winner’s bracket. After going through the line-up of racers, it was my turn to go again. I lined up at the start and we took off! My competitor and I were neck in neck as we raced around the course. I gave it everything I had, but I just couldn’t get it done. The double elimination meant I had one more chance to stay in the race. It wasn’t long after that moto, I was lining up again. The flag flew and we took off! I hit the gas, determined to cross the finish line first. I was doing great and had a little lead, but then I made a mistake and spun out on the slick asphalt. My competitor got ahead and crossed the finish line just seconds before me. I was bummed that I was out of the race, but I still had a great time!
